The hippos are coming!!! Yes, just when you thought that the London boots were the bright shinning light of April 2021 (man, they sold out fast) Irregular Choice surprise us with a new character heel shaped like the second largest land animal on Earth (Elephants are the largest, maybe 2022?). A group of Hippopatum is called a bloat (also the name i give to my time in lockdown) and I’m one with mty random hippo facts now. On to the quick quide. I will be releasing a full guide to the complete collection shortly after it launches tomorrow.
What’s in the collection
So far, we officially know one pair. They’re called So Hippo and they’re adorable. They’re a cross somewhere between a boot and a shoe with a wide ankle strap. The strap has a buckle which is always good news for those that have less than or more than the average leg width. The Hippo itself (he/she needs a name) has a little bit of a hippy vibe, holding a flower in it’s gold paws and wow is that a smiley face. I love the hearts all over the hippo too and that little bit of gold in the ear is a stunning touch. The red gingham pattern is covered in a glittery shine. I wasn’t sure about the pink butterfly bow detail but it the real life photos I think it looks more like a bow which i think really works.
The heel height of the hippo is 11.5cm which puts it at the same height as Mickey and Minnie. It’s half a centimeter under bunnies and deers and 1.5cm high than the dice. There’s a platform height of 1.5cm listed so they won’t feel as high as they are but even with that they are a high high heel.

So what’s going to happen?
Irregular Choice generally use an online queueing system for launches. Here’s how it works from past experience:
- Be on the website 30 minutes before
- Be signed in
- Have anything else you want to order already in your basket
Shortly before the launch the website with change and then you’ll be placed randomly into a virtual queue. The screen will count down and tell you how long you have left to wait and then when it’s your time you’ll get redirected to the site. You usually have 20 minutes or so to shop but it will tell you on the screen.
Irregular Choice sometimes put photos of the entire launch on their facebook page with prices either just before or dead on launch time but this hasn’t always been the case.

Usually most stuff that sells out can be found. The official site as well as many of the stockists allow you to sign up for email alerts when items come back in stock You can find out how to set up an alert on the official site here. Check the independents as well as the offical site and set up alerts on the official site. You can also set up an ebay alert for Hippos as quite a few of the independents sell on there too. Eclectic sell on Ebay and Amazon so check both.
Facebook groups like Irregular Choice buy, sell and worship sometimes set up a post to link buyers searching for something specific to stockists.
